your hair was long when we first met...

I just posted about this at h.net, but I thought I'd share it with you guys, too:
Last week I saw this video and felt a renewed sense of wanting to do... something. I felt it last year when I first found out about the walk campaign and it inspired me to start takethewalk.net to get fans to organize their own walks. That effort kinda failed because no one really did, although some people were very enthusiastic and loved the idea. And then Hanson went and asked me if they could buy the domain name to make their own site and you don't say no to Hanson! Or, maybe you do, but I didn't. Well, I half did (yay me!) I said they couldn't buy it, they could have it. But the rest of that story is long and involves me fangirling, so I'm gonna skip it.
Aaaaaaanyway... I wanted to do something, and I was trying to think of something I could do on the walks this fall to give people more info on why we're walking, and I thought about fliers (and still might do that also), but sadly, so many people just throw fliers in the nearest trash can without really looking at them. So I was trying to come up with something they might not just throw straight in the trash... and I thought of candy for some reason. lol
I remembered a campaign I was very slightly involved in years ago that had custom candy bars made to get the word out about their cause, so I was looking online for places that sell candies in custom made wrappers, but they cost about 40 cents per mini candy and I couldn't afford that. So I designed my own wrappers and printed them up and cut them out and bought my own bags of mini candies to put them on. That worked out to about 10 cents per candy instead. I've set myself a goal of making 600 candies for the North West walks (I have 200 done already), I don't know if I'm just going to hand them out at the Seattle walk or the Portland and Vancouver walks, too.
I thought maybe people might want to do the same thing at walks on the rest of the tour or maybe even just at their school or job or something, which is why I'm sharing the idea (sorry if it's been done before). I would be happy to give people my wrapper design to print up if they don't want to make their own. It's pretty simple, as is the "construction" of the candies. All you need is a color printer, some scissors, some glue, some Hershey's Nuggets and time. And patience. lol Honestly though, it doesn't take too long. I made 100 in an hour this afternoon, so it's not that hard at all. Put some Hanson music on and it doesn't even feel like work.
( Here are some pictures (sorry they're crappy, my camera wasn't feeling co-operative) )
For all I know, this is a terrible idea and it might fail completely, but I thought it was worth it to find out. I just wanted to do something. Something is better than nothing, right?
(I'm not gonna friends lock this post, in case you know anyone who you think might be interested in trying this)

This journal is friends only! If you want to be friends with me... you're crazy.
But you can comment this post and I'll add you.
Unless you're on my list. o_O
Oh, yeah, I might also kinda like Hanson. Just a little bit.
Don't say you weren't warned.
